CLNJ 2019 Smashers vs Rebels
Smashers beat Rebels by 5 wickets on a cold, windy and overcast day here at Naaman Williams Park to start the CLNJ 2019 season. Smashers Cricket Club won the toss and elected to field and it was a great toss to win on a windy. Bilal Ahmed and Adil Nousherwan opened the innings for the Rebels while Asif Doga and Nabil Hassan started the preceding for the Smashers. Adil started with a positive intent in the first over with the help of a beautiful cover drive for 4 and the things looks promising for the Rebels after the first over with the score on 7 runs. Things took a 180 degree turn as Nabil beautifully bowled Adil on a late in-swinging yorker and had Abdullah caught behind from a ball that pitched on length and moved away from the batsman kissing the outside edge of the bat along the way. Instead of buckling down and hold down the fort, the Rebels batsman keep on swinging for the fences and parishes one after the other with rash shots against Nabil who was swinging it like he was Jimmy Anderson and took full advantage of the ground conditions. The 8th wicket partenership looked fairly decent for Rebels as Saqib Jutt and Bilal Zulfiqar put on a partnership for 40 odd runs but Nabil came back for his second spell took care of Bilal with the first ball and completed his fiver for day. Rebels folded soon after for 97 runs.
Smashers inning started no better than how Rebels started their inning. three quick wickets as Mark Tyrell provided the terror with his speed and inswinging bowling but Dominic Rikki had his own idea as he blunted the new ball and started to smash the ball once the new bowlers were taken out of the attack. Mohammad Naeem put in some quick runs at the end to close out the game. Syed Nabil Hassan with his 5 wicket haul was adjudged man of match.
